Athletic Director Kim Cave announced today that the football team’s match-up against San Benito High School, originally scheduled for Saturday, September 29, has been canceled.
“Due to all of our injuries and illnesses, especially with our varsity team, we do not have enough players to safely play,” Cave said in an email to school staff.
San Benito has been ranked 19th by MaxPreps in its Bay Area preseason rankings, and has held its own against local powerhouse teams such as Palo Alto High School.
“This was not an easy decision and the players are especially struggling with it,” Cave said. “They always want to play all of their games.”
The team will continue with its league schedule next Friday, October 5, against Cupertino High School. It will be the team’s first in-league home game of the season.
